It’s That Time of Year Again: My 2019 Goals and Thoughts on my 2018 Goals

Well it’s that time of year again. It’s the time of year when we make resolutions that a lot of us tend to break by mid year. Some loathe the idea of making New Years Resolutions. I personally don’t like to call them resolutions but rather goals. Yes I know they’re the same, but if I tell myself they are goals, I tend to keep them. I know that sounds a bit ridiculous, but it  works for me! For the most part I’ve achieved my goals that I made for 2018. One of my main goals was to start my blog which I did back in November. I was a little late, but better late than never. Another goal was to pay off my car. Well I did that too sorta by trading it in for a new one. I guess that counts right? Never mind it doesn’t!!! Okay so I also wanted to loose an additional 20 lbs but that didn’t happen. My husband is really happy I didn’t achieve that goal because he thinks I’m too skinny at my current weight. Another goal was to be more social. I did achieve that goal, however, that will always be a work in progress considering I’m an introvert. We just thrive on isolation. I also wanted to have a closer walk with God. I achieved that goal but once again that will be a continual work in progress. I also vowed to read and write more. I purchased several books at the beginning of 2018 to help with that but haven’t even finished one. Oh well there’s always this year! My blog is helping me to write more so I can check that one off the list. Another goal was to save a certain amount of money each month which I did but spent it on home furnishings mid year, and so I decided to start over in 2019. So I guess I accomplished half of what I set out to do which is still a win in my book.

Goals for 2019

Here are my personal goals for the new year. My hope is that you will be inspired to create some goals for yourself this year. I believe you should never stop growing and never stop learning.

1. Save money

If you’re anything like me and love to spend money, then you’ll know how difficult this goal can be to achieve. I’m not going to share how much, but just know there is a certain amount each month that I intend to put aside. Saving should be on everyone’s list because you just never know what may happen. Also the money you save can go towards a trip you plan on taking in the near future. That’s pretty much what I intend to use mine for this year. I love to travel so saving money can help me do just that. I’ve made a promise to myself to stop spending money on frivolous things that I don’t need. The money I plan to save will allow me to achieve some of the goals that I will be mentioning in this post.

2. Finish furnishing my house

My husband and I purchased a new home back in 2017 and have yet to fully furnish it. I’ve picked up a few things here and there but haven’t really been intentional about it. I’m planning to  hopefully get my house to what I have been envisioning in my mind by the end of 2019. I have a formal living area that I have yet to furnish. There is also a sitting area in my bedroom that I’m looking forward to furnishing. Right now it’s an empty space for my ironing board. I will try to also share updates here on my blog so follow along with me.

3. Closer walk with God

I mentioned earlier that this will be a continual  goal for me so it’s only fitting to add it to the list. I realized in early 2018 that I didn’t know God like I thought I did, and it absolutely broke my heart at first. Then He explained to me that He is a big God and we will never fully know Him because the depthness of God is far too complex for man to ever fully comprehend. So it is a necessity if you are a child of God to always and forever want to know more about Him. Prayerfully He will guide me on how to achieve this in 2019.

4. Read and Write more

Again this will be a continual goal. Hopefully I can read the books I’ve already purchased. My kids love to read especially my daughter. She loves when I read to her at night. I learn tremendously through reading. It also helps me to think more and ponder on things that I wouldn’t have otherwise. I also want to pick up the former First Lady Michelle Obama’s new book. I heard it was very inspiring. I also plan to write more here on my blog. Writing has always been a passion of mine since I was a teenager. I started out writing poetry because it was a way for me to express myself without having to open my mouth.

5. Travel more

I have a few places in mind that I want to visit in 2019, but nothing is set in stone yet. My kids keep bugging me about going on a Disney cruise. They love to travel as well. Even if it’s just for a weekend getaway, I plan to spend my hard earned money on experiences and not just things. Traveling is just one way to meet new people and experience new opportunities that you wouldn’t experience staying in your small bubble. If it were up to me, I would spend the rest of my life traveling the world and being in the moment.

6. Socialize more

This one is probably the hardest one for me because I’m more comfortable in my quiet place. It’s funny because I enjoy meeting new people, but I can be quite socially awkward at times. I’m working on it though. It’s quite difficult at times to put myself out there because of fear, but I made a promise to myself and God that I would try to be more open to the possibility of friendship and new connections that could last a lifetime.

7. More date nights/days with my spouse

Having kids can make it very difficult to spend that important alone time with your spouse. We try to at least have lunch together once a week while the kids are in school. Rarely do we have a date night because I work at night. I guess really the goal is to have more date nights or go on a weekend getaway with him. That would make him a very happy man I’m sure!!! Constantly dating your spouse is essential to a long and happy union. When you allow distractions to take precedent over the one you made a vow to, then that’s when trouble can creep in and destroy what shouldn’t have had an opportunity to infiltrate in the first place.

8. Grow my blog

My hope is that my blog will grow in 2019. I want to write well thought out and interesting content that will keep my readers wanting to come back for more. Let me know if there is anything you’d like for me to write about in the up and coming New Year. I have a few ideas in mind for the month of January that I can’t wait to share. The purpose of my blog is to inspire. I don’t have one niche that I’m sticking to with my blog as most probably do because there is more to me than one particular topic. I didn’t want to limit myself because I could easily get bored quickly by doing so. I’m fulfilling my purpose by sharing with you what life has taught me. Let’s grow and learn together!

9. Exercise

This is a goal that a lot of us make each year. I think exercise is vital to our health and well-being. I just seem to have more energy and thrive when I’m constantly active. I discontinued my gym membership back in early 2018, but I plan to exercise at home which is easier for me to do. My goal isn’t to lose weight, but just to be active and hopefully have more energy overall.

∗∗∗∗∗∗∗

Well I hope that you are inspired to think of some goals that you can achieve for 2019. Exercising will probably be the most difficult to achieve this year because it just seems like there just is not enough time in a day, but health wise it is a must that I begin and remain consistent with that goal or else I won’t have the stamina to achieve some of my other goals. I’m sure throughout the year I’ll think of something else I need to improve on and will want to add to my already long to do list. The good part is that I’ve already started working on many of my goals so it won’t be too difficult to start. The hardest part is just starting, but once you do, it’s worthwhile. You will feel accomplished and grateful that you were a partaker in self-improvement. Even if you don’t accomplish all that you set out to do, keep going because you can always get back on track and pick up where you left off. Sometimes you just have a take a break, but never quit. I use to beat myself up because of my lack of consistency in certain areas, but I had to tell myself that it’s okay to take a breather every now and then. The journey is real, but we are more than equipped to face it head on. If we couldn’t make, we wouldn’t have made it this far. So ready or not, 2019 here we come!
